With the invaluable support of the Evening Times, the Magic Million appeal was launched in April 2003 to raise £1million towards the new Intensive Care Unit. Thanks to the generosity of many different people and organisations, we were delighted to announce at the end of last year that we had reached our Magic Million!
In April 2005, Carol Smillie officially opened the new unit at a ceremony attended by guests, families, donors and staff.
From the comparisoon to the left you can see that the new ICU is bright, airy and spacious. completely different from the previous unit which was small and cramped with beds squeezed in beside each other. This is 5 times bigger than the old unit, it has twice as many beds, state-of-the-art equipment, parents' accommodation and, for the first time, a dedicated High Dependency Unit. The new Intensive Care Unit is now the very best in the country.
a unit we can all be proud of!
