Jenny's Journey - An Update

Supporters of Yorkhill Children’s Foundation will most probably be familiar with a very special little girl named Jenny Cook, who was the star of our Autumn 2009 Newsletter.  Six year old Jenny has shown exceptional bravery in dealing with the rare bowel condition ulcerative colitis, and we knew that anyone who has read her story would be as eager as we were for an update on her progress. 

Jenny got her large bowel removed in March last year, this operation being the start of the reversal process so she could eventually do without living with a colostomy bag. Jenny spent several hours in surgery, during which time the surgical team work some magic with her small bowel so that it could replace some of the work that her large bowel previously did. Her surgeons Mr Haddock and Mr Anderson were pleased with how the operation proceeded, not to mention highly impressed with the fighting spirit of this incredible little girl who was able to leave our hospital a mere six days after her surgery!  Unfortunately Jenny’s difficult  journey is not quite over yet, as she still has a final operation to go through in about twelve weeks time which will complete the reversal process, but we are in no doubt that Jenny will once again astound everyone with a speedy recovery!  Jenny would also like us to point out that although she loves all the staff at Yorkhill she does have a particular soft spot for Mr Haddock!

Those of you who have read our previous story about Jenny may remember her ambition to ‘raise a trillion pounds for Yorkhill hospital!’  Not one to be fazed by a somewhat daunting target, she determinedly embarked upon various fundraising schemes, enlisting the help of her dad’s colleagues, as well as staff and pupils at her school Carmunnock Primary and so far has raised over £5,000.00! She is now planning a special summer event to raise even more funds for our hospital. We as a charity feel very lucky to have someone as bright and hard working as Jenny to fundraise on our behalf, and we are delighted to be able to update our other supporters on her progress!
