Around 2000 children each year need an MRI scan either to help with the diagnosis of an illness, or to determine the best treatment. These children are often scared as the scanner can be loud and claustrophobic, and often have to be anaesthetised if they are too young or unable to lie perfectly still for up to an hour.

To help make this experience easier, we have provided an Video Screen which is fitted to the machine, so children can watch their favourite film or cartoon and be distracted for the duration. As this had to be specially adapted to make it compatible with the strong magnetism of the scanner, this cost £19,500. The difference it will make to sick children is priceless.
